hi there
in recent weeks the guidelines for freecycle has changed, you cant advertise the same item within 31days,you cant put recieved post on and constantly get picked up on not putting area your in or mail to long winded....
On checking freecycle again this evening on all three groups i noticed all of the above on postings.... they got through our moderators.
Are the rules different on the groups? or is it up to moderators.?
I would have gone for blue stair carpet but have no idea where it is ....
There is no harm in adding old items to a new post, iyswim. But to repost something because of a no-show is a different issue. The best way to avoid this is to keep all requests you get, so if the first person you chose doesn't turn up, you have other people waiting, and you don't need to post it again.
That rule of waiting 31 days is not that fair I have had no shows and not kept other peoples e-mails to get back to somone else.no e-mail no call nothing they just dont turn up after they say there coming for the item.
So is that kind of flexable? I seen a lot of re offered item, and due to time wasters. Like i said a list of people who do this would be good aswell repeat offenders will not get offered and save people waiting in for collection if they are on that list.
Am sure that would put genuine people intrested up the list if they are seen to be collecting items almost like an ebay status?but not really i think it would weed out sellers and non collectors
Always keep emails of other people interested in your items, this way you won't need to repost your items. As for no shows, all you need to do is let us mods know about the offenders so we can deal with them. If you don't tell us we won't know basically.
It does seem very off putting when postings do not advertise what area they are situated in...I myself have noticed a few ones that obviously have slipped through the net, however everyone is human and these things happen. I usually just bypass these requests or offers and delete them out my message pile. Maybe someday people will comply with the rules and add their area into the posting..and everyone will be happy.:)
I am one of the Owners of WestFife Freecycle and have been reading the responses to the discussion. When Arielle and I took over the ownership we decided to tighten up the site and make it run smoothly. It is not unusual for sites to have limits on how many posts and regularity of postings. If we allow people to post the same advert unlimited, I have had people previously try and post the same ad every day. I know that is an extreme example, but it happens.
As for adverts being rejected if they are not formatted correctly - most sites request that members follow a simple layout indicated the item and location. If members read the group regulations which are sent out when they join, and again once a month, it is clearly outlined how messages should be set out.
If any has any better ideas then please feel free to send them to Arielle and I through the site and we will gladly look at all suggestions. Send emails to: WestFifeFreeCycle-owner@yahoogroups.com
Thanks
Lynne
I understand the repitition thing, obviously freecycle has a lot of messages, so if people keep repeating the same ones there will be even more.
Could you maybe clarify for me if it's ok to add things that you have already offered into another message offering new items? Eg if I was offering toys one day and no one replied and the next day I was offering clothes, could I add the toys into the clothes message?
Sorry Viv, after checking, at the moment it isn't actually allowed, that was my mistake. We are always looking at how to make things as fair and smooth as possible, thank you for bringing this up, we will think about this issue and get back to you soon.
